Degrees and Certifications:
Hi! I’m Margaret Newman. I am the Reading Specialist at Fairview. I am also the lead REACH teacher for Sherman ISD, as well as the director of the Adventures After-School Program at Fairview. I think I have the best job in the world because I get to read with children all day long!
I was born in Sherman, but have lived in Richardson, Plano, Houston, and Baton Rouge, Louisiana. I am married to the love of my life, James Newman, who is working on his teaching degree while he student teaches at Neblett. We have 2 dogs who keep us busy. I enjoy cooking, doing needle work (crochet, knitting, sewing, needlepoint), quilting, and reading. I also love listening to music of all kinds, and watching a few of my favorite shows on television.
I graduated from Louisiana State University with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education in 1988. I received my Reading Recovery certification from Texas Woman’s University in 2003, and my Master of Education in School Administration from Southeastern Oklahoma State University in 2013. I am also certified as an English as a Second Language teacher (1991), an Early Childhood Education teacher (2003), and a Principal (2013). I have taught for a total of 33 years in Pride, Louisiana; Alief, Texas; Richardson, Texas; and Sherman, Texas.
I believe that all children can learn, and I’m proud to say that I have helped more than 500 learn to read! As Albert Einstein said, “I have no special talent. I am passionately curious!” I enjoy the process of untangling confusions and scaffolding learning to help children be successful. It’s a beautiful thing when a career and a passion come together!
