Heather Wood
Sherman Independent School District is pleased to announce the appointment of Heather Wood as Principal of Washington Elementary School. She will replace Amy Pesina, who will serve as principal of Dillingham Intermediate for the 2020-2021 school year.
Wood has 21 years of education experience, with 14 years in campus and district level leadership roles, including instructional specialist, dean of instruction, assistant principal, and principal.
Most recently, she was the assistant principal of Caldwell Elementary in McKinney ISD. During her time at Caldwell, she oversaw the two-way dual language program, mentored new assistant principals, managed campus testing, and served as the internal coordinator of strategic planning. Before serving as assistant principal, Wood was a principal in Blue Ridge ISD, where she successfully opened a new school in the second year of her principalship.
“I am thrilled to join the dynamic and dedicated Sherman ISD team,” Wood expressed. “It truly is an honor to be able to serve the students, staff, and community as a Washington Tiger and continue the legacy that has been established. Working alongside the amazing staff at Washington is a privilege that I fully embrace.”
Superintendent of Schools, Dr. David Hicks, is happy to welcome Wood to Sherman ISD. He believes that her passion for creating high performing teams will continue the academic success of the campus.
“We are excited to recruit Ms. Wood to join our Sherman ISD family. She brings years of leadership experience, and in each of her schools has helped create a challenging and positive learning culture,” he said. “Her passion for education is evident, and we look forward to continued excellence at Washington Elementary.”
As a teacher, Wood taught a third-grade self-contained class and fourth and fifth-grade math and science. She graduated from East Central University in 1999 with a Bachelor of Education and earned her Master of Education in Educational Administration in 2004.
