Miss Deloris Dowell
Deloris Dowell is currently the principal of Fredrick Douglass Early Childhood Center and has served in this role since 2012. She joined Sherman ISD in 2005 as the Assistant Principal at Wakefield Elementary and has also served as Assistant Principal at Henry Sory Elementary. Ms. Dowell started her career in education 20 years ago in Hereford, Texas. During her first three years of teaching, she was a Head Start/PreK Teacher at Bluebonnet Elementary. She then taught Kindergarten for nine years at Bluebonnet Intermediate School, and seven years teaching Kindergarten at Tierra Blanca Primary School.
Ms. Dowell grew up in Garden City, Kansas and graduated from Garden City High School. She attended junior college at Garden City Community College before going to Fort Hays University, where she received her bachelor's in elementary education with a specialization in early childhood. Ms. Dowell graduated from West Texas A&M University with her master’s of education in administration.
Ms. Dowell believes that Fred Douglass Early Childhood Center sets the foundation for students to be successful emotionally, socially and academically. She believes that it is a partnership between parents, students and teachers to work together in building our future Bearcats! She believes that PLAY is so important for our students to be strong STEM thinkers!
During her free time, Ms. Dowell enjoys traveling, baking, going to the movies, making crafts and spending time with family and friends.
