Step 1: Teacher or Service Provider

Begin with the teacher or staff member who works directly with your child.

Examples include:

• Classroom instruction or assignments
• Grades or student progress
• Classroom accommodations
• IEP services in the classroom
• Behavior or classroom concerns
• Speech, occupational therapy, physical therapy, or other related services

Step 2: Campus Administrator

Contact the campus principal or appropriate assistant principal.

Step 3: District Special Programs Staff

If the concern involves a special program, IEP implementation, or specialized service and has not been resolved at the campus level, contact the appropriate Special Programs staff member.

For questions about your child's IEP, services, goals, accommodations, placement, or an upcoming ARD meeting, start with:

1. Your child's special education teacher/case manager or service provider
2. Campus administrator
3. Diagnostician/LSSP or appropriate Special Programs staff member
4. Special Education Coordinator/Director, when additional district-level assistance is needed

Parents may request an ARD committee meeting at any time when they believe the committee needs to discuss their child's IEP or services.

For questions about an evaluation, reevaluation, eligibility, or a request for a special education evaluation, start with:

1. Your child's campus administrator or campus special education contact
2. Diagnostician or LSSP assigned to the campus
3. District Special Education Evaluation/Compliance staff
4. Special Education Coordinator/Director, if additional assistance is needed

Important: A parent may request an evaluation for special education services at any time. The district will respond to the request in accordance with applicable state and federal requirements.

For questions regarding Section 504 accommodations, dyslexia services, or a 504 plan, start with:

1. Your child's classroom teacher, when the concern involves classroom implementation
2. Campus 504/Dyslexia Coordinator
3. Campus administrator
4. District 504/Dyslexia staff

If you have concerns about your child's academic, behavioral, attendance, or social-emotional progress, please start with:

1. Your child's classroom teacher
2. Campus MTSS Coordinator/Counselor or appropriate intervention staff
3. Campus administrator
4. District MTSS/Behavior staff, when additional support is needed

The MTSS process is designed to bring families and school staff together to identify concerns, review data, select appropriate supports, and monitor student progress.

Parents and guardians may request copies of their child's special education records.

Need a Copy of a Recent IEP or ARD Document?

Please start with:

1. Your child's special education teacher/case manager
2. Campus special education contact or diagnostician
3. Special Programs Department, if additional assistance is needed:

Examples may include:

• Current or previous IEP/ARD documents
• Evaluation reports
• Progress reports on IEP goals
• Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs)
• Prior Written Notices

Need a Complete or More Extensive Copy of Your Child's Educational Records?

For a broader request for educational records, including records maintained in multiple locations or departments, contact the district office responsible for student records/public information or follow the district's established records-request process.

When making a request, please provide:

• Parent/guardian name
• Student's full name
• Student's campus
• Specific document(s) or records being requested
• Approximate date or school year, if known
• Preferred contact information

You do not need to provide a reason for requesting your child's records.

If you are unsure who maintains the document you need, contact the Special Programs Department and we will help connect you with the appropriate person.

For routine transportation questions such as routes, pick-up/drop-off times, or bus assignments, please start by contacting the Transportation Department at 903-891-6433.

For concerns involving a student's specialized transportation identified through an IEP, please start with:

1. Your child's special education case manager/campus contact
2. Campus administrator
3. Special Programs Transportation contact

When possible, we encourage families to begin by communicating directly with the staff member involved. Many concerns can be resolved through a conversation and shared understanding.

If the concern cannot be resolved directly or you are uncomfortable addressing the staff member:

1. Contact the campus administrator.
2. If unresolved, contact the appropriate district administrator.
3. Concerns involving serious allegations, student safety, discrimination, harassment, or other matters requiring immediate administrative attention should be reported directly to a campus or district administrator.
