Behavior Support Classroom (BSC)

In the BSC, students receive instruction and support in these key areas:

• Self-Regulation Skills: Recognizing emotions, using calming strategies, and managing responses to challenges.

• Replacement Behaviors: Learning positive alternatives to challenging behaviors tied to each student's BIP.
• Social Skills: Developing peer interaction, problem-solving, and appropriate communication.
• Academic Skills: Accessing grade-level content with scaffolds, modifications, and small-group support.
• Behavioral Routines: Following expectations, earning reinforcement, and building intrinsic motivation.
• Reintegration Skills: Practicing skills in inclusion settings to prepare for a less restrictive environment.

Our classrooms are structured, predictable, and supportive. A typical day may include:

• Morning Meeting: Reviewing expectations, setting daily goals, and building community.
• Direct Instruction: Targeted academic and social skills lessons aligned to IEP goals.
• Small-Group Learning: Hands-on, scaffolded instruction in a focused small group.
• Social Skills Practice: Explicit teaching and role play using district resources (WhyTry, Second Step).
• Reinforcement & Breaks: Positive reinforcement systems and scheduled movement/sensory breaks.
• Inclusion Experiences: Specials, lunch, or academic classes with general education peers as appropriate.
• Data & Goal Review: Daily reflection on behavior goals and progress toward reintegration.

• Family Partnership: We collaborate closely with families to align strategies between home and school.
• Progress Monitoring: Daily behavior data and academic progress are tracked and shared regularly with families.
