Special Populations
As one team with one purpose, the Special Populations Department builds equitable systems of support, strengthens instruction, fosters meaningful relationships, and advocates for every student to achieve successful outcomes.Special education services are available at every Sherman ISD campus; however, some centralized programs are only available at select campuses. Services are tailored to the individual needs of each eligible student based on their Individualized Education Plan (IEP). These supports and services prioritize educating students in the the least restrictive environment (LRE) and can vary widely depending on a student's needs.
Special Education Records
Sherman ISD retains confidential special education records for a minimum of five years following the cessation of services, which could be when the student graduates, ages out (reaches 22 years of age), or no longer receives special education services. After this retention period, the records can be securely destroyed unless otherwise requested by the parent, guardian, or adult student.
