Inclement Weather

Snow Outside Of SHS

Sherman ISD may make the decision to cancel school or delay the start of classes as a result of inclement weather. The safety of students and staff holds top priority.

When weather situations arise, we consult multiple sources prior to making decisions on closing or delaying school activities, including communication with meteorology experts, local first responders, transportation officials and area school districts. This includes monitoring and regular check-ins with the National Weather Service, Grayson County Office of Emergency Management, Sherman Office of Emergency Management, Sherman Police Department, Grayson County Sheriff's Office, TXDOT, Texas Highway Patrol and others. Additionally, when conditions warrant, staff members drive the roads very early in the morning to check road conditions and evaluate conditions in and around SISD campuses.

If a decision is made to close or delay school, the announcement will be communicated no later than 6 a.m. on the day of school. In the event school is already in session, a decision to end school early or cancel after-school programs/activities will be made as soon as appropriate. These announcements will be made through the communication channels listed below:

  • Sherman ISD website (www.shermanisd.net)
  • Sherman ISD mass notification system: direct calls, text messages and emails to families and staff. (Please ensure up-to-date contact information is on file with your child's school to be sure you receive notifications. You can log on here to check or update student information.)
  • Sherman ISD social media: Facebook, Twitter/X and Instagram
  • SISD Emergency Hotline: 903-891-8333

Additionally, athletics coaches will contact teams and families through the SportsYou app and social media regarding any changes to athletic schedules and events.

Helpful Bus Information for Inclement Weather

Here Comes The Bus app logo. Yellow circle with bus inside

Did you know the Sherman ISD Transportation Department uses the Here Comes The Bus app to share information with families about the real-time location of school buses? By downloading the app on Apple and Android devices, you can track bus arrival times and see your child's bus traveling along its route on a map. You can even sign up for push notifications or email messages as the bus approaches your child's stop. While SISD encourages families to use this app all the time, you may find it especially useful when inclement weather leads to route delays or it is especially cold or hot outside.

Keep in Mind

Families and staff should look for announcements regarding a possible delay or closure through the various communications channels utilized by SISD. Sherman ISD does not typically send out or post notifications to confirm school is in session. Parents, employees and students should assume a normal school day unless notified otherwise.

Parents and guardians can use the registration portal to update their contact information, as well as add or revise emergency contacts for their students, at any time. Simply use the user ID and password you established when you registered your student. If you forgot your user ID or password, use the prompts within the registration portal.

Please note: in order to receive text messages from Sherman ISD, a cell phone number should be listed as a mobile number in order for our notification system to recognize the number as a cell phone number and begin sending text messages. Please ensure your phone number is listed as mobile number if you do not currently receive text message notifications from Sherman ISD.

Update Student Information

Keeping your phone number and email address up to date ensures that you receive important school communications, including emergency alerts, school closure/delay announcements, event reminders and updates regarding your child’s progress. It’s also essential to have current emergency contacts on file in case we need to reach someone when a parent or guardian is unavailable. Please take a moment to verify your contact details and emergency contacts to ensure you stay connected and we can communicate with you when it matters most.
