Standard Reunification Method
The Standard Reunification Method (SRM) is a structured, step-by-step approach for efficiently and effectively releasing students to their parents following a wide variety of campus-based emergencies. Developed by the "I Love U Guys" Foundation, SRM emphasizes student safety, coordinated communication and controlled release procedures to reduce confusion, prevent misinformation and ensure every student is released to an approved guardian in a calm, orderly manner.
Reunification may be necessary due to a gas leak, fire, school violence incident or damage to a school as a result of severe weather, among other types of emergencies. In the event of a reunification:
- Students and staff would be evacuated from their campus and transported to an alternate, secure location.
- SISD will share the location of the reunification via multiple communications channels. Parents should make sure their contact information on file with the district is up to date.
- Parents and guardians should bring a photo ID to the designated check-in area at the reunification location, where they will be asked to fill out a form for each student.
- Students will be brought out individually to be reunited with their guardians.

Grayson County Reunification Team
All 13 public school districts in Grayson County, along with Grayson College, are part of a county-wide reunification team that will respond in the event of a large-scale crisis impacting a school anywhere in Grayson County. The team, made up of employees from each organization, will deploy with signs, high-visibility vests, radios and other essential items so that no district stands alone to respond to an emergency.
The collaboration, conceived and forged through the efforts of the Sherman ISD Police Department, is intended to share resources, reinforce best practices and strengthen safety procedures across all districts. The reunification team will receive semiannual training and take part in an annual full-scale exercise. Before the partnership, the responsibility for reunification fell solely on individual districts.
Upcoming Training Exercise Involving Piner Middle School
On November 19, 2026, students, staff and families at Piner Middle School will participate in an evacuation and reunification training exercise with members of the Grayson County Reunification Team. This is not a real emergency. This will be a simulated gas leak, designed to provide valuable emergency preparedness training.
As part of the exercise, students and staff will be transported to the Sherman High School Multipurpose Athletic Center (MAC) and then back to campus. A small number of students will remain at the MAC to be picked up by their parents utilizing the Standard Reunification Method.
