Medical Services & Emergencies

School nurses serve as the first line of care, determining whether further medical attention is needed and providing immediate support. School nurses routinely assess illness and treat minor injuries on campus, but they also have the training, skills and resources to assist in the event of a general medical condition or more serious emergency. Response activities include identifying the medical condition, emergent situations, managing the emergency until relieved by emergency medical services (EMS) personnel, communicating the assessment and interventions to EMS personnel and following up with the health care provider. They do not diagnose an illness or medical condition.

Sherman ISD schools have the following on hand to assist in the event of an emergency:

  • Automated External Defibrillator (AEDs)
  • Bleeding Control Stations
  • Naloxone
  • Protective gear and equipment
