Sherman Ex-Students Association

Celebrating the Past and Building the Future!

The Sherman Ex-Students Association is dedicated to preserving the cultural and literary histories of Sherman and Fred Douglass high schools through a curated museum, as well as supporting the education of current Sherman students through involvement and scholarships. The Association is open to graduates and former students of both schools.

Board members meet on the first Monday of each month at 5 p.m. in the Sherman Ex-Students Museum. An annual meeting of all members is held on the fourth Saturday of September at Sherman High School. We invite you to get involved as a member, volunteer or donor to support our nonprofit organization and mission!

The Association publishes a regular newsletter called the Bearcat Bulletin to recognize, unite, inform and involve all in the support of education and fellowship. All news and correspondence can be emailed or sent via mail to the Association.

Old Spirit Wear on Display at Ex-Students Museum

Take a stroll down memory lane with a walk through the Sherman Ex-Students Association Museum! The museum is located just south of the Sherman ISD Service Center at 2701 N. Loy Lake Road in the former Dillingham Middle School Building (see map), which is now home to the SISD Police Department and DAEP in addition to the museum. Museum hours are Wednesdays and Fridays from noon to 3 p.m.

The museum displays Athenians from just about every graduation class, all kinds of pictures, awards, plaques, Hi Talks, letter sweaters and jackets, and many, many more memories. The museum regularly accepts donations of Sherman High School and Fred Douglass High School memorabilia.

To make a donation or request a special visit when the museum is typically closed, email ShermanExStudentsMuseum@gmail.com or call 903-436-1427. The Museum Director James Perry will be happy to provide a tour and show you around the collections.

Association History

The Association was founded in 1993 by Coach Henry Sory and other local leaders, who established a governing board of directors and elected Sory as the Association's first president. As a nonprofit organization, all contributions and dues are tax deductible.
