Secondary Education

Sherman ISD serves secondary students at two middle schools, a comprehensive high school and a non-disciplinary, accelerated high school of choice. Students have access to a wide variety of courses and can earn industry-based certifications, college credit and even an associate degree while still in high school to meet their unique interests and future goals.
Measuring Student Progress
Sherman ISD teachers are constantly monitoring student learning and differentiating instruction within the classroom to respond to student needs. This can take the form of quick checks for understanding or more formal tests or projects at the end of an instructional unit. Report cards consist of both formative grades, which are earned during a unit to identify student strengths and weaknesses, as well as summative grades, which are earned at the end of a unit to evaluate student learning.
Testing Dates & Information
SISD uses online assessments called i-Ready (middle school) and IXL (high school) to track student growth in math and English Language Arts throughout the year. These tools provide personalized student learning and help teachers identify individual student academic needs as well as areas for whole class review.
In addition, secondary students take state-required STAAR and TELPAS tests, as well as college, career and military readiness exams to help them prepare for their next steps after high school. Families are encouraged to review scores to gain a picture of their child’s learning and take advantage of test prep resources to help their child do their very best.

SISD Course Plan Documents
Sherman ISD teaches the state standards outlined in the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS). These standards detail what students should know and be able to do by grade level and subject. SISD curriculum documents can be found in the SISD Teaching & Learning Parent Portal and contain the order in which the TEKS are generally covered. Numbers and letters reference specific TEKS which are outlined in detail on the state TEKS website.
