Grading

Report cards and progress reports are important tools in measuring a student's academic performance and ensuring their success. Both elementary and secondary schools have nine-week grading periods, with progress reports sent during each nine-week period. Sherman ISD encourages families to review their child's report cards and progress reports in the Parent Portal and to discuss them with their children. Celebrate successes, talk about areas for growth and ask about any missing assignments. Teachers can answer any questions.

Standards-Based Report Cards

SISD utilizes a standards-based report card in grades PK-2 rather than a traditional report card. This approach provides specific feedback on each learning standard, helping parents and teachers support the child’s growth in targeted areas.

Progress Reports

A progress report details a student's progress in a subject area, specific course, attendance, and conduct/work habits. All elementary students will be sent home with a progress report at the mid-point of the nine-week period, and all secondary students will receive a progress report at the third and sixth week point of the nine-week period. Secondary progress reports are sent electronically, and parents may request a paper copy.

Parents will be contacted if the student is in danger of failing at the progress reporting period or if there is a significant drop in grades. If a student’s grade falls below 75 or is a DN (PK-2nd grade: Does not yet meet grade level standards) after the midpoint of a grading period, every effort will be made to contact the parent/guardian by phone and in writing.
