Head Start

Head Start is a two-year, full-day federal program. This Region 10 program offers high-quality instruction while focusing on growth in language and literacy, social and emotional development, cognition and perceptual, motor and physical development. Transportation is provided if the student lives more than two miles from campus.
In addition, Region 10 provides:
- Family goal-setting
- Parent leadership and learning opportunities
- Developmental screenings
- Medical, dental and mental health support for children
- Special services for children with disabilities
- Support services for the whole family
Eligibility
To qualify, the child must live in Sherman ISD, be three- or four-years-old on or before September 1 of the target school year and meet one or more of the following:
- Family is income eligible (SNAP, SSI, TANF)
- Family is homeless
- Child is in foster care
Families should fill out an application for both Sherman ISD and Region 10 to apply.
Required Documents
You will need to bring the following documentation to register:
- Parent Photo ID
- Proof of address (Lease agreement or gas, water or electric bill)
- Proof of income for parents/guardians in the household (1040 tax return transcript showing gross income with preparer's signature)
- W-2
- Self-Employment (previous 12 months income)
- SNAP (EDG #)
- SSI documents
- Pell grants
- Child shot records
- Child support and if you received TANF
- DFPS verification letter or other DFPS official documentation if applicable

2026-27 Registration
Early childhood education registration for the 2026-27 school year is underway now! To begin, families must first complete the online registration form(s). Families will also need to provide proof of eligibility to complete the application process.
Early Childhood Application Online Help Sessions
(Neblett Elementary, 1505 E. Gallagher Drive)
- Friday, March 13 - 9 a.m. to noon
- Tuesday, March 24 - 4 to 6 p.m.
English and Spanish-speaking staff and computers will be available on site.
To complete registration, families must then submit proof of eligibility in-person at the Sherman ISD Service Center (2701 N. Loy Lake Road) during the following dates and times:
- Wednesday, April 1 - 3:30-7 p.m.
- Thursday, April 2 - 8 a.m. - 4 p.m.
