Early Head Start

The Region 10 Early Head Start program is a comprehensive, federal educational program for pregnant women, teen parents, and families with infants and toddlers. In Early Head Start, families can consider a more flexible program through Home-Based Early Childhood Education.

Services provided by Region 10 include:

  • Family goal-setting
  • Parent leadership and learning opportunities
  • Developmental screenings
  • Medical, dental and mental health support for children
  • Special services for children with disabilities
  • Support services for the whole family

Eligibility

To qualify, the child must live in Sherman ISD and meet one or more of the following: 

  • You may be pregnant
  • Your child must be an infant (birth) or a toddler up to the age of 34 months old
  • You must be income-eligible (SNAP, SSI, TANF)
  • Family is homeless
  • Child is in foster care

Families should fill out an application for both Sherman ISD and Region 10 to apply.

Required Documents

You will need to bring the following documentation to register: 

  • Parent Photo ID
  • Proof of address (Lease agreement or gas, water or electric bill)
  • Proof of income for parents/guardians in the household (1040 tax return transcript showing gross income with preparer's signature)
  • W-2
  • Self-Employment (previous 12 months income)
  • SNAP (EDG #)
  • SSI documents
  • Pell grants
  • Child shot records
  • Child birth certificate
  • Child support and if you received TANF
  • DFPS verification letter or other DFPS official documentation if applicable

Sherman ISD is now accepting applications for Pre-Kindergarten, Head Start and Early Head Start for the 2025-26 school year! To apply, families must complete the online registration form(s) and provide proof of eligibility.

Families may complete the online form(s) independently, but required documents must be presented in person. Staff at Fred Douglass Early Childhood Center are available to accept proof of eligibility and assist families with the registration process between the hours of 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. on school days.
