Give Your Child the Foundation for a Bright Future! Free! Apply Now! Pre-Kindergarten - Head Start - Early Head Start

2026-27 Registration

Registration for early childhood programs for the 2026-27 school year is underway now! To begin, families must first complete the online registration form(s). All families must complete Sherman ISD registration. Families applying for Head Start or Early Head Start must also complete the Region 10 application. Once online registration is completed, families must provide proof of eligibility in-person.

Sherman ISD offers full-day Early Head Start, Head Start and Pre-Kindergarten for free to those residing in SISD who meet age and eligibility requirements. These high-quality programs and services are designed to give our youngest learners and their families the best possible foundation for the future.

A child must qualify to be in the Pre-Kindergarten, Early Head Start or Head Start Program. You can find more information about each program, as well as eligibility requirements and required application documents by following the links below. Please note that completion of the application does not qualify a student for the program.

Early Childhood Special Education

Children can receive special education services at our early childhood centers starting as soon as their third birthday. Early Childhood Special Education services are based on evaluation, eligibility and the student’s Individual Education Plan (IEP). If you believe your child needs a referral for individual evaluation, please refer to our Child Find website.

Bilingual & ESL Programs

Many of our young students are learning the English language and benefit from our early childhood bilingual and ESL programs. These programs are designed to make age-appropriate academic content accessible as students begin to acquire the English language.

Early Childhood Campuses

Sherman ISD offers Pre-Kindergarten and Head Start at Fred Douglass and Perrin early childhood centers. Eligible students are assigned to a campus based on where they live. Early Head Start is offered at Jefferson Learning Center.

The district will open a brand-new early childhood center at the former site of Wakefield Elementary in the 2027-28 school year. The new campus will bring Pre-Kindergarten and Head Start programs together in one location, while Early Head Start will remain at Jefferson Learning Center.

SISD Course Plan Documents

Sherman ISD teaches the state standards outlined in the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS). These standards detail what students should know and be able to do by grade level and subject. SISD curriculum documents can be found in the SISD Teaching & Learning Parent Portal and contain the order in which the TEKS are generally covered. Numbers and letters reference specific TEKS which are outlined in detail on the state TEKS website.
