Advanced Placement
Sherman ISD offers a wide selection of Advanced Placement (AP) courses in English, Science, Math, Social Studies and other subject areas. These courses, designed by the national College Board, are designed to be academically challenging and highly rigorous, exposing high school students to college-level instruction.
AP courses culminate in a final exam at the end of the year. The exam is scored 1-5, and depending on the specific college/university, students who earn a qualifying score on an AP exam may receive college credit for that course. Scoring high enough may also lead to certain awards and distinctions.
Students can enroll in AP classes in 11th and 12th grades, with the exception of AP Human Geography (9th grade) and AP World History (10th grade).
Note: Home-schooled students/families may contact the testing coordinator at the high school to arrange to take AP Exams on site at SHS.

AP vs Dual Credit
Advanced Placement
Rigorous high school courses offered through the national College Board. Students earn college credit through an end-of-year test scored 1-5. Scores of 3 or higher typically receive college credit.
Dual Credit
College courses which count toward both your high school diploma and college degree. The grade a student receives will remain on their college transcript and possibly affect their college GPA. Sherman ISD partners with Grayson College to offer dual credit.
