Advanced Academics
Sherman ISD secondary campuses offer a large number of advanced academic courses: Advanced Academics (AA), Advanced Placement (AP) and dual credit. These courses are designed to challenge students academically while preparing them for college and career success.
Middle School
Middle school students have the opportunity to participate in Advanced Academics (AA) classes in English-Language Arts, Math, Science and Social Studies. These courses use an advanced curriculum, have a higher rigor level, faster pace and more challenging assignments. While taking AA classes in middle school is not required to take advanced academics classes in high school, the increased rigor helps students prepare.
High School
All high school students can enroll in AA and AP courses and there are many opportunities to enroll in dual credit courses. Both AP and dual credit courses provide opportunities for students to earn college credit and challenge themselves academically. In addition, students learn time management, organization and study skills essential for higher education.
GPA Considerations
Because advanced courses have higher expectations for students, they are weighted higher than other courses when determining a student's grade point average (GPA).
