Amy Porter Named Principal of New Sherman Middle School
Sherman Independent School District is proud to announce the selection of the new Sherman Middle School Principal.
Current Piner Middle School Principal, Amy Porter, has been named principal of the new Sherman Middle School. Porter, who is currently in her third year as the principal of Piner, will transition to the principal of the new middle school at the close of the 2020-2021 school year. The new Sherman Middle School is scheduled to open in August of 2021.
As the principal of Piner Middle School, Porter has been intentional in establishing programs that enhance instruction and promote social and emotional wellness for middle school students. She uses effective best practices to create an environment that fosters accountability and responsibility for student achievement, and she’s done a great job instilling a student-centered culture on her campus. With 26 years of experience in public education, she plans to transition her experience and expertise to the new middle school building to continue the tradition of building Bearcats at the campus.
“I am excited about this opportunity,” Porter said. “I'm ready to get started on building positive school culture and celebrating current Sherman traditions while building new traditions through collaboration with staff, students, parents, and community members."
Porter’s previous roles in Sherman ISD include Director of Elementary Education, Director of Teaching and Learning, principal of Jefferson Elementary, and teacher at Fairview Elementary. She is a proud Sherman High School alumnus and completed her bachelor's degree at Southeastern Oklahoma State and her graduate work at Texas A&M Commerce.
Amy Pesina to Lead Piner Middle School Next School Year
Sherman Independent School District is pleased to announce that Amy Pesina will be the principal of Piner Middle School beginning with the 2021-2022 school year.
For the past six years, Pesina has served as principal of Washington Elementary, where she has transformed the campus into one of the top-performing elementary schools in Sherman ISD. As a campus leader, Pesina has built intentional relationships with students and has established shared leadership responsibilities with her staff that has created an environment that is safe, positive, engaging and challenging for all students. She is excited to transition to the secondary level as principal of Piner Middle school to continue Building Bearcats with the same momentum she has maintained while leading Washington Elementary.
"I am thrilled about this position and building relationships with staff, students and parents,” Pesina said. “I look forward to instilling a culture that is student-centered and building a team at Piner Middle School that will focus on student success together."
Pesina is a Sherman High School Alumnus and has been a Sherman ISD employee for 17 years and is considered a champion for all students. Her previous roles in Sherman ISD include first grade and bilingual teacher, dyslexia therapist, and assistant principal.
Pesina will finish out the 2020-2021 school year at Washington Elementary and will transition to Piner Middle school at the close of the school year. Sherman ISD will begin its search for a new Washington Elementary principal next semester.
