Ms. Keefer-McGee

I am excited to be joining the staff at Dillingham, teaching 5th and 6th graders!

I love guiding students as they become artists! As an educator, I am inspired by how kids and adults learn and grow and I believe that Art helps all of us do that.

I have a BFA in Painting and Drawing and a Masters in Art Ed. with a focus on Museum Education from the University of North Texas. After working to develop curriculum and programs in Art Museums in Chicago, the Metroplex, and Massachusetts, I realized that my heart was in the classroom where I could develop relationships with students.

My favorite aspects of teaching are guiding students to support each other as artists, teaching them to think like artists, and all the fun, hands-on media we explore in the Artroom. Art History, including Art from cultures around the world is also an exciting part of what we do. In my Art room you will also find students reading myths, learning about Science, using rulers and the rules of geometry, and so much more.  I love teaching students all the different ways that Art can help us make sense of the world.

I continue to make my own art and enter pieces in shows. In my own Art, I am fascinated by fairytales, nature, and science and I create mixed media works on paper and wooden panels. I am also on the board of the Denison Arts Council and have work on view at Gallery off the Square in Sherman.

After many years away, I feel fortunate to be back in the Texoma region living on my family farm. I live with my husband and two of my three sons with extended family close by. We ride horses, garden, take care of the farm, are avid readers, and love history.

My youngest son will be attending Piner in the Fall and my middle son will be starting at Austin College. (Go ‘Roos!) My oldest son lives in Denton.
