• Sherman Independent School District is the largest and fastest-growing public school district serving Grayson County, Texas. With approximately 7,800 students across 15 campuses, Sherman ISD is able to offer a wide variety of classes and programs to meet students’ unique needs and interests. Whether a student is bound for college, the workforce or the military, there are numerous opportunities in Sherman ISD to prepare them for lifelong success. 

    The public school district, which serves students in preschool through 12th grade, is located in the heart of Texoma, 65 miles north of Dallas. With several major employers and numerous companies expanding or moving to Sherman, student enrollment is expected to increase to 9,000 students by 2027. With growth comes tremendous opportunity to build on a strong foundation of academics, community support and Bearcat pride.

Innovative Learning

  • Sherman learning is innovative, creative and engaging. Classrooms are equipped with state-of-the-art technology, and teachers provide hands-on, relevant instructional experiences to maximize student learning and connection to the real world.

    • A new, 550,000-square-foot high school opened its doors in 2021 and serves as the district’s flagship campus. The new Sherman High School features modern technology resources, flexible classrooms, comfortable collaboration areas, natural lighting, outdoor learning spaces and superior fine arts, athletics and career and technical education facilities, making the campus one of the premier high schools in the nation. 

    • Sherman ISD is also a recognized leader in early childhood education and provides the only dedicated campuses in Grayson County for full-day Pre-Kindergarten and Head Start programs.

Robust Opportunities

  • Sherman ISD students have a multitude of ways to discover their passions, challenge themselves academically and prepare for the future.

    • High school students choose from more than 400 courses, including more than 60 advanced or dual credit courses in English, reading, math, science, social studies and elective subjects.

    • Career and technical education (CTE) courses are available in 22 different pathways of study including health science, advanced manufacturing, robotics, automotive, cybersecurity, construction and many more. Each pathway includes hands-on activities, real-world training and the ability to earn at least one industry certification, which give students the opportunity to enter the workforce in their chosen career path.

    • Dual credit courses allow students to earn college credit while still in high school, giving them a jumpstart on a postsecondary education and saving thousands in college tuition. Students who complete the Bearcat Collegiate Program graduate high school with an Associate of Science degree from Grayson College. A total of 60 hours of college credit are transferable to all Texas public universities. 

    • Special education programs are specially designed to provide instruction and related services to meet the individual needs of each student with disabilities.

    • Students participate in award-winning co-curricular and extracurricular programs as well as numerous service and leadership organizations. SISD recognizes the value of these activities and their ability to boost academic success, student engagement and school pride.

    • On average, SISD students who take the ACT consistently score higher than their peers across the region, state and nation.

A Growing Community

  • With a booming Sherman economy and growing population, Sherman ISD is set to surpass its elementary building capacity in three years, its high school building capacity in seven years and its middle school building capacity in 11 years. High-tech industry growth in the tax base provides SISD with the opportunity to keep pace with enrollment growth and increase building capacity without increasing the tax rate. 

    Sherman ISD is committed to being a responsible steward of taxpayer dollars as it plans for and manages growth. The district currently has its lowest property tax rate in 15 years and has saved taxpayers nearly $56 million in interest over the last decade by aggressively paying down debt.

Strong Partnerships

  • SISD is the proud home of the Bearcats, a source of strong traditions and family values dating back generations. Parents, grandparents and other alumni serve as examples of what it means to be a Sherman Bearcat. Their legacy of excellence inspires current students and educators as the community continues to grow. 

    The strong support for the district and its students is demonstrated by the large number of individuals, businesses, churches, civic groups and other organizations that graciously give their time and resources to help students and families and enhance educational opportunities in SISD.

    • The Sherman Education Foundation, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization that exists solely to benefit Sherman students and educators, has raised more than $3 million since its inception in 1999 thanks to the generosity of donors. 

    • A robust Partners in Education program connects the community with opportunities to give back to the district and support students and staff, either through volunteerism, mentorship, donations, field trips, perks and more.
