A School Health Advisory Council (SHAC) is a group of individuals made up of staff members and parents who provide advice on school health programming. They represent the community in the areas of coordinated school health and address the eight areas of coordinated school health, which are as follows: health instruction, healthy school environment, health services, physical education, school counseling, food services, school site health promotion for faculty and staff, and parental involvement.
Board Recommendations
Section 28.004 of the Texas Education Code (TEC) requires a district SHAC committee to make curriculum recommendations to the School Board in the following areas: human sexuality instruction, child abuse, family violence, dating violence, and sex trafficking.
Sherman ISD will hold public meetings in February 2023 to discuss proposed curriculum recommendations in these areas prior to consideration by the School Board on February 27, 2023. Both meetings will occur at the Sherman ISD administration building room A-148, 2701 Loy Lake Road, in Sherman.
