Superintendent Tyson Bennett, Ph.D.

  • Dr. Tyson Bennett is the Superintendent of Schools for Sherman ISD, with more than 30 years of experience in education. He’s been serving in Sherman for the past 17 years with the majority of his time as an Assistant Superintendent over academics, student services, finance, facilities, and operations. In May of 2022, he was named Superintendent, bringing to the position extensive experience, relationships within the community, and a long family history in Sherman.

Dr. Bennett earned his Ph.D. in educational leadership from the University of Southern Mississippi, and his master of arts in teaching and bachelor of arts in business administration from Austin College.

Dr. Bennett’s ties to the community date back to 1942 when his grandparents moved to Sherman to farm the land and raise a family. With generations of Bearcats before him, he and his wife, Tanna, have continued to build the legacy with two of their daughters, Terah and Tyra, graduating from Sherman High School in 2020 and 2021, and their third daughter, Trista, expected to graduate as a proud Bearcat in 2025. Without a doubt, Dr. Bennett’s life commitment is exemplified by his belief that “It’s in everything we say and everything we do, we’re Building Bearcats.”
