NEW AND REPLACEMENT ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS
- The construction of two new elementary schools (opening in 2025 and 2026 on new sites in growing areas of Sherman) will alleviate functional capacity concerns at the district’s current elementary schools. The enrollment capacity for each school will be 712 students, serving students in grades K-5.
- Crutchfield (1951) and Fairview (1952-53) elementary schools were all built in the 1950s and do not meet current educational and building requirements. Replacement campuses at these sites will improve functional capacity and increase maximum capacity at each to 712 students. Additions completed in 1996 will be retained and incorporated into the new schools. The existing campuses will continue to serve students without disruption while construction is underway on the opposite side of the properties.
- Elementary student capacity will increase from the current 809 to 2,848 – which creates an additional 2,039 student capacity across the district’s elementary schools.
- The new state-of-the-art facilities will include the latest in technology and safety and security for students and staff.
- Each new school will include a storm shelter built to withstand winds of up to 250 miles per hour.
-
ADDITIONS TO SHERMAN HIGH SCHOOL
- Additions will allow Sherman High School to meet growing enrollment challenges by increasing student capacity from the current 2,688 to 3,213 students (an increase of 525 students).
- The new additions will include 33,428 square feet of new classrooms and additions to SHS.
- Additions to include new camera systems, fencing, safety and impact-resistant glass at accessible doors, and Emergency First Responders Communication Infrastructure.
-
NEW EARLY CHILDHOOD CENTER (at current site of Wakefield Elementary)
- Combined capacity of both the current Fred Douglass (originally built in 1943) and Perrin Early Childhood Centers (originally built in 1959) is 534. This new ECC will have a capacity of 594 students. This facility will be constructed on the site of the current Wakefield Elementary.
- A single campus will accommodate more students, combine and strengthen existing programs, improve operational efficiency, and provide the opportunity for the district to offer tuition-based pre-kindergarten to students whose families don’t qualify for the free program based on state criteria.
- The new facility will include a storm shelter built to withstand winds of up to 250 miles per hour.
-
CONVERT DILLINGHAM ELEMENTARY TO A MIDDLE SCHOOL
- Project will include additions and renovations to the existing building, which was originally constructed in 1997.
- The project will increase building capacity by 254 students, from the current building capacity of 890 to 1,144 students.
- Additions include the construction of a storm shelter, as well as upgrades to both athletic and fine arts areas.
- Renovations will be done in the library, classrooms, corridors, and collaboration spaces.
-
JEFFERSON LEARNING CENTER RENOVATIONS
- The renovations will provide updates and renovations to the district’s special programs facility, which was originally built in 1931.
- The renovations will include roof replacement as well as repairs and upgrades to mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
-
PINER MIDDLE SCHOOL RENOVATIONS
-
Project will include additions and renovations to the existing building, which was originally built in 1953.
-
Enrollment capacity will increase from the current 853 students to 1,114 students, an increase of 291 students.
-
The new additions include a storm shelter, built to withstand winds of up to 250 miles per hour, and athletic and fine arts areas.

COMPLETE MULTIPURPOSE STADIUM AT SHERMAN HIGH SCHOOL

- The stadium will serve football, soccer, track, and other extra- and co-curricular activities
- Project will add seating, restrooms, concessions, and a press box to accommodate up to 8,000 spectators
- The new stadium will also improve safety and security, provide ample parking, reduce the need for busing and students driving to Bearcat Stadium, and provide handicap and wheelchair accessibility
- Sherman High School is poised to be assigned to 6A, the state’s largest athletic classification, starting in the 2024-25 school year
- The historic and beloved Bearcat Stadium will continue to be used for middle school and youth sports as the district expands to three middle schools
