Mrs. Abby Homer
Abby Homer is returning to Sherman High School after having the privilege to be called to serve students, parents, teachers and their communities for over 24 years-- including Waco, Burleson, Plano and Sherman.
With a background in Special Education, Ms. Homer has held roles as a classroom teacher, in-home/parent trainer, district trainer, Adapted PE Specialist, campus Department Head and Assistant Principal. She is grounded in her belief that all students deserve to be provided access to rich learning experiences where they are supported in acquiring new knowledge and given opportunities to make personal, individual connections and growth that prepares them for their future. She further believes that classrooms must engage both the brain and the heart. She believes that engagement happens when the work is meaningful and when we make meaning of what we learn.
Ms. Homer has a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Baylor University and a Master of Science from Texas Woman’s University. She is also a Nationally Certified Adapted Physical Educator (CAPE). Ms. Homer holds Special Education and Principal certifications. She has extensive experience working with collaborative teams at the campus and district levels, and coaching teachers to analyze data and plan with educational equity.
Ms. Homer’s “Why” is to be a servant leader who listens, empathizes, shows stewardship, foresight, self-awareness, and a commitment to the growth of people so that people feel valued and have a sense of shared responsibility in achieving their goals. As a servant leader at SHS, it is her goal to listen, coach and lead by collaborative example and intentionally make an investment in each person that walks through the door by building healthy relationships and helping each person be the best they can be. When we focus on the things that connect us and elevate others before ourselves, something extraordinary happens--we create a community where everyone is respected for their strengths. You can expect fairness, firmness, honesty and putting students first in all that she does.
She thanks you for sharing your best with us at SHS and trusting us to be partners in growing your student. YOUR students are the difference-makers for us! She looks forward to working with you to make it a phenomenal year!!
