• SB 139  Special Education Referral Process

To begin the special education referral process for your child, submit a written request for evaluation. This can be done by sending an email or hard copy of the request to the campus principal at your child’s school. If your child is too young to enroll in school the request can be sent to the principal at the early childhood campuses (Fred Douglas or Perrin Early Childhood Centers) or the district Child Find contact, Andrea Kennedy ankennedy@shermanisd.net at Central Office, 2701 Loy Lake Rd, Sherman TX, 75090.  In your request, please include what specific concerns you have regarding your child, and the areas of functioning you are requesting evaluation in (for example, math, reading, behavior, communication, etc…).  Please see the linked flyers below for additional information about the special education referral process:

  • Compensatory Services

Families can request compensatory services if their child was previously denied a Full Individual and Initial Evaluation (FIIE) in cases where such evaluation would have been appropriate or whose FIIE was delayed. To inquire about these services families in special education should request an ARD meeting to discuss Compensatory Services. For students not currently in special education, put your concerns in writing and send them to the administrator of your child’s campus. Please see the linked flyers for more information about denied or delayed evaluations:
