    Welcome Back, Students!

    What's New for 2023-24

    FREE MEALS FOR ALL STUDENTS

    Free Meals

A national program will allow Sherman ISD to provide meals at no cost to all students starting in the 2023-24 school year. Students of all ages will automatically receive free breakfast and lunch without the need for a free and reduced-price meal application.

A free breakfast includes a fruit and at least two other foods, like grain or milk. A free lunch includes a fruit or vegetable and at least two other foods. An unlimited number of fresh fruit and vegetables are also free with a complete meal. Students who take or request snacks, additional entrees, or extra milk, will be charged for those items. Click here to learn more about meal payments.

    METAL DETECTORS AT SECONDARY SCHOOLS

Sherman ISD continues to enhance school security to protect our students and staff. After a successful pilot in the 2022-23 school year, metal detectors will be utilized daily at Sherman High School and Jefferson Learning Center starting with the first day of the 2023-24 school year, and SISD will expand their use at Piner and Sherman middle schools as well.

The metal detectors will limit certain prohibited items from being brought on campus. To keep the line moving quickly and efficiently, students should not bring any items to school that they don’t need and inform officers of any objects that may trigger the metal detectors. This will help ensure the process goes as smoothly as possible and students get to class on time.

OFF & OFF TO INCLUDE EAR BUDS

Off and Off includes phones and earbuds

To limit distractions, the district's Off & Off policy is expanding in the 2023-24 school year to include headphones and earbuds. These devices are permitted in the school cafeteria and as needed to support classroom learning, but otherwise should be turned off and put away during the instructional day when not in use for approved purposes. THE BEARCAT WAY

In the 2023-24 school year, Sherman ISD is implementing a character education program called The Bearcat Way. This traits-based, calendar-focused character education program is designed to give students the keys to drive towards greatness. Sherman ISD will distribute handouts and videos to schools and families each month to explain and help reinforce the positive character traits at home and school.
