Children must be four years of age on or before September
1 and must qualify for free or reduced lunch or be English language deficient to enter
Pre-Kindergarten. Head Start personnel at Fred Douglass School will determine eligibility
for the Head Start program. A child must be five years of age on or before September 1 to
enter Kindergarten. To enter first grade, a child must be six years of age on or before
September 1. Documentation of birth is required.
Sherman Independent School District provides full-day kindergarten at all elementary
campuses. Pre-Kindergarten classes are located at Crutchfield, Fairview, Jefferson, Perrin
and Washington Elementary Schools. Head Start classes are located at Fred Douglass School.
Any student enrolling in the District for the first time must show satisfactory evidence
of immunization against DPT-DTAP-DT-TD, polio, rubella, mumps, measles, chickenpox, and
Hib HBV.
