Regular Board Meeting

Sherman High School Little Theater

Board Members Present: Mae Burton, Randy Fluke, David Kennedy, Cary McDougal, Cathy
Renshaw, Betty Stoker, Al Zorrilla
Board Members Absent: None
* SHS Principal Dr. Al Hambrick presented the results from the college entrance
examinations taken by the graduating class of 2002. Dr. Hambrick stated that SHS students
had done very well on the college admission tests and continues to score higher than the
state and national test takers.
* Assistant Superintendent Fred Freeman reported the official results of the
accountability ratings and reported that the district had received a Recognized rating for
the 2002 school year.
* Superintendent/Board Dialogue -
~SHS teacher Diane Clark, Dr. Hambrick, and Dr. Hutto
attended a summer staff development program at Harvard University during July 2002 and
Diane presented a very enthusiastic and interesting report on the program.
~Chuck Edwards, SISD Maintenance Director, presented
a maintenance report.
~Cotton Wade reminded and invited everyone to attend
the Early Head Start Open House on Thursday, September 19 at 7 p.m. in the Fred Douglass
gym.
~Dr. Hutto discussed the TASB Policy Update 68 and
told the Board that it was his recommendation to approve Update 68 with changes to policy
GE (Local). The Board approved the TASB Policy Update 68 with Dr. Huttos recommended
changes to GE (Local).
* On behalf of the Sherman I.S.D., the Board accepted the following gifts.
SHS Athletic Department
From Ronald and Diane Swenson - $50; from Dr. Herve and Dorothy Hosek - $100; and from Mr.
and Mrs. Jack L. Carroll - $100, - this is to be used to help with the tennis court
project.
Sherman High School
From the Texas Rangers Baseball Organization of Arlington - $100 to be used for the SHS
library in recognition of SHS Teacher of the Year, Mrs. Diane Clark.
Washington Elementary School
Donations of school supplies for the Washington students from the following entities:
Altrusa
Insurance Women of Texoma
AmVets
Junior Achievement
CiCi Pizza
Tias Mexican Food Restaurant
First United Methodist Church University of Texas
Fisher Controls
Wilson
N. Jones Hospital
* The Board approved the budget amendment for new carpet at Fairview Elementary School.
* The Board approved budget revisions among functional expenditure categories in the
General Operating, Food Service and Debt Service Funds.
* The Board approved by consent agenda the following items:
~Special Custodial Supplies Bids
~Prepared Pizza Products Bids
* The Board approved awarding the property and fleet insurance bids to Travelers
Insurance.
* The Board approved a probationary contract for the staff accountant and approved
permission for a SHS teacher Patti Hoops to apply for the Fulbright Exchange Program for
the fall semester, 2003-04 school year.
* The Board approved increasing the superintendents compensation by $5,000 and
complimented Dr. Hutto on the outstanding job he has done as Superintendent of Schools.
* The Board meeting adjourned at 8:20 p.m.
