* Director of Government Programs Dr. Sandi Froese reported on the
2002 summer school enrollment, programs and staffing. Dr. Froese also presented a report
on the elementary reading programs and staffing.
* Superintendent/Board Dialogue -

President Randy Fluke presented Gold Performance Acknowledgement Certificates to the
following schools:
Sherman High School: Improvement in Mathematics
Piner Middle School: Improvement in
Reading and Improvement in Algebra I Examination Results
Fairview Elementary School: Improvement
in Reading
Jefferson Elementary School: Improvement
in Reading
- Chuck Edwards,
SISD Maintenance Director, reported on the progress of the Piner Middle School renovation
and said the targeted completion date is December 27, 2002.
- Executive Director
of Business and Finance Bruce Barnett presented the annual investments report.
* On behalf of the Sherman I.S.D., the Board accepted the following
gifts.
SHS Athletic
Department
From John and Shell
Papaila of Sherman - $250 and from Wilson N. Jones Hospital - $300 - donations to be used
to help with the tennis court project.
From the SHS Athletic
Booster Club funds to purchase AED (Automated External Defibrillator)
Piner Middle School
From
St. Stephens Episcopal Church of Sherman - $170 to be used to furnish school supplies and
materials for economically disadvantaged students.
Wakefield Elementary School
From Wakefield PTA - $1,500 to be used for the Koalaty Kid program.
From Melody, Don and Catherine Jackson of Sherman - $500 to be used for the Koalaty
Kid program.
From Stacy Rake,
Nationwide Ins. & Financial of Sherman - $500 to be used for the Koalaty Kid program.
From Mr. & Mrs.
Andrew Blesi of Blesis Exxon in Sherman through the Exxon Mobil Corp. - $500 to be
used to support technology.
Washington Elementary School
From Four
Seasons Garden Club of Sherman - $100 to be used to furnish school supplies and materials
for economically disadvantaged students.
* The Board approved the following monetary awards and certificates
for outstanding academic performance during the 2001-2002 school year to the following
campuses.
Perrin Elementary School Exemplary Performance - $10,000
Fairview Elementary
School Exemplary Performance - $10,000
Crutchfield
Elementary School Recognized Performance - $5,000
Wakefield Elementary
School Recognized Performance - $5,000

* The Board approved expenditures for the month of September in the
amount of $3,496,295.84.
* The Board approved the October 2002 revisions to the District
Improvement Plan.
* The Board approved by consent agenda the following items:
- Sale of School Bus
to Bonham ISD
- Update to TASB
Policy CQ (LOCAL) Electronic Communication and Data Management
- Resolution to
Sanction 4-H Organization as an Extracurricular Activity
- Bilingual
Education Waiver 2002-03
* The Board approved the Textbook Adoption Committee members.
* The Board approved a class size waiver for one kindergarten section
at Crutchfield Elementary School with an enrollment of 23:1.
* The Board approved probationary contracts for the 2002-03 school
year for Johnny Fenn, Special Education at Dillingham and Nathan Swanner, Applied Science
(half-time) at Sherman High School.
