Board Members Present:  Debbie Burnett, Sue Frazier, John Hendricks, David Kennedy, Betty Stoker, Al Zorrilla

Board Members Absent: Cathy Renshaw

*Public Hearing – First Day of Instruction (2006-07)

  • A public hearing was held to begin the process of determining the first day of instruction for the 2006-07 school year.
  • Dr. Hambrick requested that consideration be given to begin the school year on August 14, 2006, in order to end the first semester before the Christmas break. 

*Superintendent/Board Dialogue:

  • Mr. Bradford recognized the Bearcat Band for achieving 3rd in State.  Mr. Bradford thanked the Board, SISD Administration and the band parents for their support.
  • The Bearcat Fall Sports Teams, including Drill and Cheer, Cross Country, Girl’s Volleyball and the Bearcat Varsity Football team were recognized.
  • Dr. Frazier reported she had attended a Bond Progress Committee meeting in Denton, Texas.  The Denton committee is a citizen run committee made up of 17 residents, which reflects the voters’ desires back to the board.
  • Dr. Hambrick recognized Piner Middle School for making the Just for Kids Honor Roll.
  • Dr. Hambrick also presented Gold Performance Academic Awards.
  • During his Academic Program Update, Dr. Hambrick reported the SHS Robotics Team is advancing to State.
  • Chuck Edwards reported the Douglass parking lot is 90% complete and should be striped on Friday.  He also reported the district is negotiating for two elementary sites, one in north Sherman and one in south Sherman.
  • Mignon Plyler reported the Sherman ISD Technology Team had evaluated solutions and options for our e-mail.  Mirapoint is an industry leader and would include an e-mail server, storage for archiving purposes, 24/7 hardware/software support, strong encryption and subscriptions for anti-virus and anti-spam protection.  The district thanked Internet Texoma who has graciously hosted all Sherman ISD e-mail accounts since 1996.
  • Bruce Barnett introduced Jeff Baker of Prologic Software.  This software is built specifically for Texas school districts.

*Action Items:

  • The Board approved the 2005-06 Campus Improvement Plans for each SISD campus as presented.
  • The Board approved the preliminary financing plan for the 2005 Bond Program as presented by RBC Dain Rauscher.
  • The Board approved the 2004-05 audit report as presented by Snyder and Grisham LLP.
  • The Board approved five underwriters for the 2005 bond program as follows:  UBS Financial Services, First Southwest Company, A.G. Edwards and Sons, Inc., Edward D. Jones and Company, and Raymond James and Associates.
  • The Board approved three change orders for the SHS lights and curtains project.
  • The Board approved budget changes as presented.
  • The Board approved expenditures and revenue for the month of October 2005 in the amount of $3,844,304.93.
  • The Board approved the purchase of the Mirapoint e-mail solution and support for $54,257.00.
  • The Board approved the acceptance of gifts from the community totaling $27,675.00.
  • The Board approved the rescheduling of the December school board meeting for December 12, 2005.
  • The Board approved the election of Debra H. Smith to serve as a non-member Secretary of the Board of Trustees.
  • The Board approved the casting of 834 votes for Al Zorrilla and 397 votes for L. D. Byrd to elect them to the Grayson Appraisal District Board of Directors.

*On the consent agenda, the Board approved the following items:

  • Policy Update 76.
  • SHS Boys’ Baseball/Girls’ Softball Bids.

*From Closed Meeting

  • The Board approved the Superintendent’s Acceptance of Educational Diagnostician’s Retirement effective December 16, 2005.

*The meeting adjourned at 9:50 p.m.
