Board Members Present:  Debbie Burnett, Sue Frazier, John Hendricks, David Kennedy, Cathy Renshaw
Board Members Absent:  Al Zorrilla

*Presentations from the Public:

  • Janna Hearn, an SISD parent, addressed the board regarding special ed.  She told the board the special ed parent committee had a positive meeting with the special ed director; however, she is still concerned that special ed teachers do not have teacher edition textbooks and the teaching materials are TAAS based, not TAKS and they need to address TEKS.  Mrs. Hearn concluded her presentation by reading a short story entitled Welcome to Holland.

*Superintendent/Board Dialogue:

  • Dr. Hambrick acknowledged the administration and faculty at Fairview Elementary for the success of the Power of Character Development.

  • Thomas O’Neal introduced the board to two A+ Athletes: Mashequa Gentry and Keith Burnett.

  • Mrs. Pat Brown, Health Science Teacher at SHS, recognized three health science students who would be traveling to Anaheim, California to compete in health care issues and dental assisting.

  • Dr. Hambrick presented an Academic Program update and addressed data analysis and strategic planning; the district’s curriculum and assessment alignment; teacher support and training; student support and strategic interventions; partnerships; and enrollment/attendance numbers.  Dr. Hambrick reported TAKS and SDAAII preliminary scores have been received for all campuses, planning in April and May, summer staff development, thanks to Connie Baker, Victoria Hubbard and Teddy Pitman for their efforts in summer school, Dr. Hambrick discussed the summer activities available to the students of SISD.

  • Mike Mitchusson invited the Board to attend the end of school breakfast on May 26 at 7:30 a.m. in the SHS cafeteria.

  • Thomas O’Neal reminded everyone that the SHS graduation would be held on Saturday, May 27 at 9:00 a.m. at Bearcat Stadium.

  • Chuck Edwards reported to the board on the construction progress, SHW/Plyler reports.

  • Chuck Edwards updated the roof report and said warranty placards are located on all the roofs.

*Action Items:

  • Judge Rim Nall administered the Oath of Office to returning board member Cathy Renshaw.  Returning board member Al Zorrilla was unable to attend the meeting.
  • Dr. Hutto presented outgoing board member Betty Stoker with a parting gift from the board.
  • The Board approved acceptance of gifts totaling $7,138.00.
  • The Board approved expenditures and revenue for the month of April 2006 in the amount of $3,540,131.48.
  • The Board approved Budget Revisions as presented.
  • The Board reorganized and elected Sue Frazier as Board President, John Hendricks as Vice President and Debbie Smith as Board Secretary.
  • The Board elected Al Zorrilla to serve on the Texoma Council of Governments.
  • The Board approved GMP (Guaranteed Maximum Price) for Phase One – Civil & Site Work – North Elementary School.
  • The Board approved the audit proposal from Snyder and Grisham, LLP as presented.
  • The Board approved the purchase of 95 Gateway computers as presented.
  • The Board approved the purchase of wireless technology infrastructure for the Dillingham campus from the General Fund.

*From Consent Agenda:

  • The Board approved the paper supplies bid to various vendors in the amount of $13,892.54.
  • The Board approved the warehouse instructional school and office supplies bid to various vendors in the amount of $47,886.02.
  • The Board approved the Memorandum of Understanding for Juvenile Services Education Program for 2006-07 School Terms.

*From Closed Meeting:

  • The Board approved probationary contracts for new teachers.
  • The Board acknowledged the Superintendent’s acceptance of teachers’ resignations.
  • The Board acknowledged the Superintendent’s acceptance of an assistant principal’s resignation.
