Board Members Present: John Altland, Sue Frazier, John Hendricks, David Kennedy, Cathy Renshaw, Betty Stoker, Al Zorrilla

Board Members Absent: None

* Superintendent/Board Dialogue:

  • SISD Orchestra Director Dr. Fred Freeman presented a report on the district’s orchestra program and it’s growth (47-50 students) this year.
  • Crutchfield Elementary presented a power point program in honor of Texas Public School month, Kindergarten choir students sang during the presentation, and four members of the Crutchfield Elementary student council sang the school song for the Board.
  • At the February Board meeting, Betty Stoker requested a health insurance survey from SISD employees.  Three hundred forty two responses (approximately 38% of 900 employees) were received from the employees and Bruce Barnett presented the results of the survey to the Board.    
  • SHS choir members performed for the Board and choir director Bryce Gage reported on the choir’s activities and performances in New York, NY during Spring Break week.                              
  • Dr. Hambrick presented the Final AYP Status Report and reported that the SISD and all campuses have “met the federal AYP student performance standards” for the 2003-04 school year.
  • Chuck Edwards reported on the progress of leveling and filling the voids at the Loy Lake property. Mr. Edwards also reported the on-line auction had sold 30 items for over $6,000.
  • Victoria Hubbard presented a Special Education report for the 2004-05 school year.
  • Dr. Hutto requested that Al Zorrilla head up an ad hoc liaison committee to meet with the City of Sherman on joint ventures. Al Zorrilla agreed and requested that David Kennedy, Chuck Edwards and Bruce Barnett be named as members of the committee.

* The Board approved acceptance of gifts to Sherman High School and Jefferson and Perrin Elementary Schools.

* The Board approved expenditures for the month of February in the amount of $6,955,519.77.

* The Board approved various budget amendments to the General Operating, Food Service and Debt Service Funds.

* The Board approved the Certification of Unopposed Candidates and Cancellation of the May 7, 2005 School Board Election. David Kennedy was reelected to Place 6 and Deborah Burnett was elected to Place 7 to serve as members of the SISD Board of Trustees.

* On the consent agenda, the Board approved the following items:

  • Approved Scheduling the NCLB Public Hearing on April 11th at 1:30 p.m. at Crutchfield Elementary School
  • Approved the Textbooks Selections for 2005-06
  • Approved the Summer School Plan for 2005

* The Board approved a one-year term contract for a diagnostician.

* The Board approved contracts for teachers, librarians and nurses.                                                    

* The Board approved the superintendent’s acceptance of resignations.

* The meeting adjourned at 8:30 p.m.
