Board Members Present: Debbie Burnett, Sue Frazier, John Hendricks, David
Kennedy, Cathy Renshaw, Betty Stoker, Al Zorrilla
Board Members Absent: None*Superintendent/Board Dialogue:
Board President David Kennedy announced that all seven SISD board members
had completed and exceeded the hours of continuing education required by the State Board
of Education.
Thomas ONeal, Principal of Sherman High School, presented certificates to
three National Merit Finalists: Joseph Nathan, Jeff Anderson and Ben Reymond.
Bryce Gage, SHS Choir Director, introduced SHS choir students who made region, area
and state choirs and also recognized students who received a class one rating at solo and
ensemble. Mr. Gage thanked the board for its support.
Jeff Bradford, SHS Band Director, introduced 27 band students who advanced to
region band, nine who went on to area and three who made state band.
Sue Ellen Davis, SHS Orchestra Director, announced the orchestra program has grown
to 70 students and several students competed in solo and ensemble contests last week and
Robby Markle, a Piner Middle School student, made the region orchestra. She also reported
Margaret Johnson would judge a contest clinic on March 2 and the orchestra is planning a
concert on May 18, to which everyone is invited.
Heather Lane, SHS Girls Basketball Coach, introduced the board to the girls varsity
basketball team. The girls win-loss record this year is 30-4, making them district
champions.
Jeff McCullough, SHS Boys Basketball Coach, introduced the board to the boys
varsity basketball team. They too are district champs with a 27-5 win-loss record for the
season.
Dr. Hambrick presented an academic program update and addressed data analysis and
strategic planning; the districts curriculum and assessment alignment; teacher
support and training; student support and strategic interventions; partnerships; and
enrollment/attendance numbers. Attendance has increased since this time last year by 41
students, with most of the growth being at the high school, Jefferson and then Perrin.
Twenty-three of the 49 students who relocated to Sherman due to the Gulf Coast hurricanes
remain in the district. These families enjoy this area and plan to make Sherman their
home.
*Action Items:
The Board approved acceptance of gifts totaling $5,178.02.
The Board approved expenditures and revenue for the month of January 2006 in the
amount of $4,417,111.03.
The Board approved Budget Revisions as presented.
The Board approved Budget Amendments as presented.
The Board approved Innovative Course Applications for Ready, Set, Teach I & II
and Parenting Education for School-Age Parents I & II be submitted to TEA for
approval.
*From Closed Meeting:
The Board approved Contracts for Administrators, Principals, Counselors,
Diagnosticians, and Non-Teaching Positions as presented.
The Board approved a probationary contract for the remainder of the 2005-2006
school year for Director Federal/State Programs and Assessment.
The Board approved a salary supplement for teachers of chemistry and physics for
the 2006-2007 school year as presented.
The Board acknowledged the Superintendents acceptance of four teachers
resignations for personal reasons.
The Board acknowledged the Superintendents acceptance of the resignation of
two guidance counselors.
The Board acknowledged the Superintendents acceptance of the resignation of
an administrator for personal reasons.
