* SHS Principal Buck Gilcrease presented a report on the career and
technology department.
* Superintendent/Board Dialogue:
- Assistant
Superintendent Dr. Al Hambrick reported on the opening of the 2004-05 school year. He
reported that the schools had a very good first day with an enrollment of 6,091 students.
- Dr. Hambrick
reported that the SISD K-12 core curriculum is online and available on the SISD Web site.
- Connie Baker
reported that there are 87 new teachers in the district this year and that these new
teachers spent eight days in new teacher induction and staff development before the start
of the school year. Mrs. Baker also reported that the five days of staff development
during the week of August 9-13 included Thinking Maps, TESA and Ruby Payne training.
- Bootie Terrell
reported on the 4th annual school fair that was held on Saturday, August 8th and the new
teacher luncheon that had been held at Fairview on Thursday, August 5th. Many area
businesses participated and supplied door prizes, which helped to make the luncheon such a
success.
- Chuck Edwards
introduced two students, Joel James and David Morales that worked for the district during
the summer. Mr. Edwards said the students used a CAD program and worked on the districts
blueprints.
* Dr. Sandi Froese presented a report on the Sherman Education
Foundation campus grants and the Major Saver Inc., fundraiser for the SEF. Dr. Froese and
Dr. Hutto presented checks to SHS, Piner, Dillingham, Crutchfield, Fairview, Jefferson,
Perrin, Wakefield, Washington and the DLC for various campus projects totaling $69,752 for
2004-05.
* The Board adopted the following tax rate per $100 valuation for the
2004 tax year:

* The Board approved expenditures for the month of July in the amount
of $1,035,636.02.
* The Board approved awarding re-roofing of Piner, Dillingham, Fred
Douglas and DAEP to the following contractors:
- Piner Middle
School Paragon Roofing, Dallas, TX - $668,084
- Dillingham
Intermediate Paragon Roofing, Dallas, TX - $559,335
- Fred Douglas
CBS Roofing, Denton, TX - $268,500
- DAEP (Old
Dillingham Campus) McClung Roofing, Everman, TX - $316,520
* The Board appointed Dr. John Allen Hendricks and Dr. Sue Frazier to
serve on the Sherman Education Foundation Board of Trustees.
* The Board approved a budget amendment to the General Operating Fund
in the amount of $9,999.00 to provide funds to purchase the Pinnacle Gradebook System for
SHS.
* The Board approved the purchase of two GMC Yukons from Grayson
Motors.
* The Board approved the PDAS Teacher Appraisal Calendar.
* By consent agenda, the Board approved the following items:

boys and girls basketball equipment bid
- SHS athletic
training supplies bid
- PDAS teacher
appraisers
- Purchase of 50
computers from Gateway

* The Board acknowledged the superintendents acceptance of a
teachers resignation.
* The Board approved probationary contracts for new teachers.
* The Board approved a probationary contract for a diagnostician.
* The Board approved term contracts for teachers.
* The Board approved a term contract for a counselor.
* The Board meeting adjourned at 8:30 a.m.
