Piners
Team 81 completed an especially meaningful assignment to commemorate the ninth anniversary
of 9/11. Teacher Martha Stephens purchased 2 flags, one that lists the names of all those
who died that day, and another that lists rescue workers who lost their lives while trying
to save others. Each student chose a name to research and find out personal information,
i.e. Did the victim have a family? What do their friends and families remember about them?
What was their occupation? I wanted the students to put a face with a name; to
emphasize that these people are not just numbers, said Stephens. Shown here are Team
81 students surveying the 9/11 flags.
