This year’s Open House night at Fairview included an opportunity for parents to hear their child’s teacher explain the academic expectations and goals for the upcoming year and suggestions for ways they could add to their child’s classroom success. In addition to classroom visits, the Scholastic Book Fair was open, representatives from several youth agencies were on hand for sign up, and the PTA sold memberships. It was a full evening. Shown here is first grade teacher Mrs. Waldrip explaining guided reading to the parents of her students. “Your child will bring home books to read. Please spend at least five minutes every day allowing them to read to you. Don’t over-correct them these first months of school. Our objective is to give them confidence and build within them a love for reading.”
