Thanks to Dr. Morales and Wilson
N. Jones employees, Sherman ISD employees received a free health screening last Friday. A
combination of twenty Wilson N. Jones volunteers and employees were stationed at the
Sherman High School cafeteria from 8:00-3:00, offering screenings which included blood
sugar and cholesterol check, carotid artery Doppler test, EKG, blood pressure, and a
completion of a Health Risk Assessment for heart disease and stroke. There was also a
nutritionist and health counselor available to discuss any concerns that were identified
during the screening. "What a perfect way to start 2008," stated physical
education teacher Mike Gillam. "Many of our New Years resolutions are
associated with improving our health, so these screenings provide us with an excellent
lead to take care of any health issues we might have. I appreciate SISD and Wilson N.
Jones for giving us this opportunity." Superintendent Dr. Al Hambrick is appreciative
of Dr. Morales and the Wilson N. Jones staff for their work in screening SISD employees.
"The health screening is one way we can assist our employees in their efforts toward
healthy living. Good health lends itself to fewer absences among employees and this
benefits the students. It makes sense that we start the new year evaluating our health and
then making the necessary changes for improving our health." Helena Vasquez is shown
receiving a screening test.
