Sherman ISD held their
convocation for the 2008-2009 school year on Monday, August 18. Teachers and staff filled
the Sherman High School auditorium as the tune Centerfield by John Fogarty
played in the background, and images flashed on a screen illustrating last years
successes at each campus. Superintendent Dr. Al Hambrick welcomed the teachers and
expressed thanks to all Sherman ISD employees for the role they play in each
students success. Employees cheered as Dr. Hambrick reminded them of the many
successes from 2007-2008 including, 2.4 million in scholarships given to the Sherman High
School seniors, District UIL Champions, a record number of AP scholars, national merit
finalists, award winning sports teams, band, cheerleaders, and drill team just to
name a few! We are 1000 strong, working together as a team to help our students
achieve success. We are blessed to have the dedicated staff we have here at Sherman
ISD, stated Dr. Hambrick. Other speakers included Sherman School Board President Dr.
John Hendricks, SISD Superintendent of Educational Services Lynn Burton, Personel Director
Mike Mitchusson, and SISD Assistant Superintendent of Finance Bruce Barnett. Last, but
certainly not least, Connie Baker closed the program with spirit charged zeal by bringing
everyone on stage. She shared the chorus of the song Centerfield, which
states, Put me in coach, Im ready to play, today. Look at me - I can be -
centerfield. Teachers live out the words to that song as they prepare to bring each
student to a point of success centerfield! Shown here are the 1000
strong SISD teachers and staff taking their place on stage in the Sherman High School
auditorium.
