TEEN PARENT PROGRAM
Becoming an effective and responsible parent when you are still growing up yourself,
presents tremendous challenges and responsibilities to teenagers who are pregnant and who
have young children. The Douglass Learning Center provides a program that hopes to
support and help students stay in school before and after pregnancy. Via a network
of academic and support services the districts Pregnancy Education & Parenting
Program provides teenage parents the opportunity to complete their education, work toward
productive careers, receive comprehensive training in parenting skills prepare for
successful and productive lives.
The components of the program include:
ACADEMIC: A modified 4 hour day with curriculum that is accelerated paced.
SUPPORT SERVICES: Individual, group and career counseling is offered. There is also
close contact with other agencies so that information and access to social services is
available. Other services include a parenting skill program, transportation and
limited day care through the appropriate agency.
