ATTENDANCE RULES & PROCEDURES

A. Success at the Douglass Learning Center depends a great deal on being present at school and being willing to work on assignments each day.  Students with good attendance generally achieve higher grades and enjoy school more.  There is also a direct link between poor attendance and academic failure.

B. The student is expected to attend each class for 45-60 minutes each day.

Parents must call the school (891-6551) when a student is absent.
C. Excused absences include:
1. Personal illness ( A physician’s statement may be required in cases of excessive absences).
2. Medical or dental appointments.
3. Death in family.
4. Personal or family emergencies.
5. Legal subpoenas or required court appearances.
6.  Teen parent absences to care for a sick child.
7.  Approved college visitations.

D. To be classified as excused absences, all absences, must be verified by a telephone call (891-6551) or a note from parents.  Absences must be cleared within 3 days.

E. Unexcused absences
1. Students who are absent from school without parental knowledge are classified as TRUANT, and will be disciplined accordingly.
* * If a student accumulates 5 unexcused absences, a warning letter will be sent to the parent / guardian notifying them of the absences and possible legal action for additional absences.  If a student accumulates additional absences, legal action will be taken as required by law.
