Kate Whitfield
Sherman School Board Member
Kate Whitfield was elected to the board in May 2007. She
currently works as a part-time business and contracts lawyer with the firm of Sanders,
OHanlon and Motley. In the past, Whitfield was an entertainment lawyer for CBS,
Paramount and NBC, and she has also worked part time as an attorney for Grayson County.
An active community and school volunteer, Whitfield has served as president of the Friends
of the Sherman Public Library, a member of the city of Sherman library board, a member and
2006 president of the Child Guidance Clinic board, a We Help Ourselves Child Safety
Program presenter, a member of the Volunteer Services Council of MHMR, a member of
the Wellness Community Impact Team for the Grayson County United Way, a member of the
Grayson County Bar Association, a member of the United Methodist Womens noon group
and a member of the Sherman High School and Piner Middle School PTAs and PACES.
Whitfield has also presented book reviews and other programs for the Sherman Public
Library, the American Association of University Women, First United Methodist Womens
groups and for fifth-grade students at Dillingham Intermediate School.
Mrs. Whitfield has received the Star of Texas from MHMR for her We Help
Ourselves program work, and in 2003, she was named Region 10 Parent of the Year by
the Texas Association of the Gifted and Talented.
Whitfield graduated summa cum laude from Fordham University with a Bachelor of Arts degree
in social science. She received her law degree from Boston University.
Kate Whitfield and her husband, Dr. Larry Whitfield, have lived in Sherman for 10 years
and are the parents of three teenagers, Charlie, Emma and Parker, all Sherman ISD
students. The Whitfields are members of First United Methodist Church of Sherman.
