2007 Adequate Yearly Progress Ratings
The No Child Left Behind (NCLB) accountability
system for Texas public schools ratings were released on August 15, 2007. Sherman
I.S.D.
proved once again to meet Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) assessment standards in reading
and math. The district not only met AYP, but posted an average gain of 7 points among all
student groups with a 91% overall passing rate in reading and 87% in math. Graduation
rates were also on the rise by an average of 4 points among all student groups at an
overall rate of 85.1% for the class of 2006. Attendance rates were up an average of .3% to
96% overall and participation on rigorous state assessments exceed standard at 99% for all
students. Other notable achievements include a 22 point gain in reading and 14 point gain
in math for students receiving special education services, and a 22 point gain in
graduation rates for the same group of students.
