Annual Programs
2009 |
Circle of Success:
TThe eighth annual Circle of Success will be held on Thursday, March 11, 2010.
This successful event recognizes the best of Sherman ISD, our exceptional students and
educators, and supports innovative campus projects. The selection of teachers, students,
and innovative campus projects begins early in the year. The SHS educators are asked to
nominate exceptional students on the basis of character, leadership, and service. The
students that are ultimately chosen for recognition then choose an SISD educator that they
feel has been as inspiration to them along their educational journey to be honored as
well. Through sponsorships and donations, innovative campus projects that have been
submitted by Sherman ISD teachers and staff for consideration, are funded for use during
the upcoming school term, thereby continuing the Circle to inspire others. To date, over
$780,000 has been raised to fund approved projects to enhance, enrich and educate our
Sherman ISD students through the annual Circle of Success event.
March for Fitness Program:
The March for Fitness program is held each spring at all SISD campuses. This
fundraiser involves the Physical Education department of the participating campuses as
students are encouraged to promote fitness and health lifestyles. The students that bring
a donation(s) to the Sherman Education Foundation are able to put their name in a raffle
for prizes. Each elementary student has a chance to win a bicycle and each intermediate,
middle, and high school students have a chance to win a $50 gift certificate and/or cool
t-shirt. The proceeds that are raised are divided between the participating campuses and
the Sherman Education Foundation Endowment Fund.
SEF 5K/15K/Mini-K:
The SEF Arts Festival Run includes a 5K, 15K, and one-mile Mini-K Fun Run and is
held in conjunction with the Sherman Arts Festival. It will be held on Saturday, September
18, 2010. Over 700 runners competed in the three events. Runners and walkers from all
around the area join the event, contributing to their health and to Sherman students
through SEF.
Major Saver Program:
The Major Saver Program is the fall fundraiser for the Sherman Education
Foundation. It utilizes a buy one, get one free card to be redeemed at 15
participating area restaurants. All of our campuses, with the exception of SHS,
participate in this fundraiser. A representative from Major Saver holds informational pep
rallies at each of the participating campuses and the fundraiser lasts one full week. The
cards are sold to family, neighbors, and friends by students for $10 each and the students
are eligible for prizes. Our Major Saver representative goes to each campus each day
during the fundraiser to pick up the money collected and provides the cards for
distribution. There is minimal to no disruption of classes or interference with ongoing
learning in the classrooms. The proceeds raised are divided between the participating
campuses and the Sherman Education Foundation Endowment Fund. |
