Perrin's History

The federal government constructed Perrin Elementary School on what was then Perrin Air Force Base and turned the school over to the Sherman Public Schools for administration and operation.  When the school opened in 1959, it served only students who lived on the base.  The Perrin student body was unique for Sherman in that the students attending were from all over the United States, and many were world travelers.

When the base closed in 1971, the school closed also.  Perrin Elementary School reopened in 1975 as a regular part of the Sherman Independent School District.  Perrin is unusual in that, though it is located in the Sherman Independent School District, its mailing address is in Denison, and its telephone number is listed on the Pottsboro exchange.
